HISTORY

The London Money Market Association was formed in 1997 following the changes in the operations of the money market introduced by the Bank of England at that time.

Certain of the larger participants in the market observed that there was a need for a representative association to ensure that information was exchanged and representations made on market issues to the Bank of England and other regulatory bodies.

The Association has grown gradually from 8 to the current level of 24 members.  Members come from a wide area of the market and the association is now represented on most of the more significant money market forums.

The overriding objective is to monitor the liquidity in the sterling money market and consider matters of policy of interest to its members.

The Association continues to review its role and purpose and will react to changes in the market place that might widen further its role.  Organisations interested in learning more about the LMMA and membership should, in the first instance, contact the Chairman, Ian Mair.
